Second Place is First Loser

So, I entered a playoff pool not too long ago…and I did pretty damn good. But, apparently not good enough coming in second and losing by 4 points. My punishment? Write a nice post about the Winner’s Favorite team. The winner was, CapsNut so I have to write a nice post about the Washington Capitals. Here are the reasons why I like the Caps.
1. Alexander Ovechkin ~ Come on you have to like a guy who can beat out Crosby for the Calder…and he has the most personality out of anyone else who is in the spotlight like he is.
2. Ted Leonsis ~ I am really jealous that the Caps have him as an owner. He is so supportive of us bloggers and is openly supportive of us. He even has his own blog
3. Alexander Semin ok so this won’t be anything like Margee’s post about him…but he is a great player. He has great vision on the ice…and it’s getting pretty entertaining to watch him on the ice…especially when he does things like this:

That’s all I got…

NYI Blog Box

How cool is this?? I mean seriously the only other team that does something like this, is the Washington Capitals, and that’s because Ted Leonsis is amazing! I am writing them to see if someone who is NOT an Islanders blogger could be invited. Anyway, just thought I would share the good word.

Ever dreamed of reporting on the Islanders?

Maybe you crave more Islanders-related articles and columns and want to do something about it?

Well, if you’re that type of die-hard Orange and Blue fan, consider this an opportunity of a lifetime.

Introducing the NYI BLOG BOX, the first of its kind among pro teams in the New York area.

The Islanders are challenging their fans with a passion for writing to start their own Islanders blog. Fans with existing Islanders blogs are welcome, too.

But here’s the kicker: all chosen bloggers will be given the opportunity to cover select home games and practices with special media accommodations.

We’re setting up a BLOG BOX in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum sort of like a press box, but away from the scribes and broadcasters because we know you want to cheer, shout, have a pretzel and enjoy the game experience on your own terms.

We will provide you with a media pass for a few games next season and a seat in the NYI BLOG BOX. You will also receive your own set of Game Notes when you enter the Coliseum Press Gate. All you have to do is bring your note pad and/or voice recorder and cheer as loudly as you want. After the game you attend, we will set up an area where you can toss a few questions at a coach or players, based on your requests and their availability.

The NYI BLOG BOX will be your open forum. From start to finish, you’ll be in control. All we ask is for the chosen bloggers to act respectfully in the restricted media areas and keep all critiques in good taste.

Perhaps best of all, your Islanders blog will generate tons of hits because it will be highlighted and linked on newyorkislanders.com, one of the most popular websites in the National Hockey League.

Only a handful of bloggers will be accepted for the opening season of this unprecedented concept. So if you’re interested, please e-mail the answers to our simple application below to Corey.Witt@newyorkislanders.com and include a writing sample of no more than 500 words to go along with it. And please, passionate Islanders FANS only!

Respectfully,

No worries Habs fans…

Ok…well it was for sure an interesting game…living in Northern Kentucky I don’t get to see the Habs play too often…although I am a fan of the team and in all honesty they are my favorite Canadian team. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised with the way they were playing. Man can they ever hit. My mom and I were watching and she’s not the biggest hockey fan in the world and she’s like man those guys are mean. I thought it was kind of funny. I love the games where they hit hard. The Habs did come out with a victory for the first time in 6 games…and my beloved Blue Jackets still haven’t figured out how to stay consistent and to play a full 60 minutes of hockey. In the first period there was no scoring and then in the second period Passy let in 3 goals…I was hoping they would pull him but Hitch didn’t. Then in the third period the Jackets went to work…scoring 2 goals. Montreal’s rookie goalie was solid. I was amazed with Huet being out he could be just the solution for these guys. Gilbert Brule for the Jackets had another very very good game…he even got a goal. He played hard and kept up with these guys. I think that Columbus got into too much penalty trouble. They took 7 penalties I believe….about 3 more than the other games. Anyway good game…good effort by the Habs in the second period and a good effort by the Jackets in the third…and I missed the first period so I don’t really know what happened…sorry I was drivin home from my aunts.

On another game…I don’t have a lot to say….the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. I have never seen these 2 teams play so I was so excited to watch it. I was impressed of course with Alexander Ovechkin, and Alexander Semin. They played awesome tonight…even though my beloved Ovechkin didn’t get a goal. Malkin and Staal were a lot of fun to watch…and then there is Crosby. I honestly didn’t even notice him on the ice. I don’t know if it was because of my hatred for him or just because he was having a bad game…but honestly I wasn’t impressed…so that’s all I have to say.

I wanna give my three stars of the day….in the 2 games I watched….
1. Jaroslav Halak amazing in his NHL debut
2. Evgeni Malkin so fun to watch
3. Gilbert Brule has really stepped it up

That’s all for the night!!

Ovechkin…is amazing!
